This film will be screened in the Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival on 19th November 2024.

Starring Padam Singh former Army man and Hira Devi

Hira Devi, an octogenarian from a Uttarakhand ghost village, is set to make her film debut in 'Pyre' at the Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival. The film, inspired by Devi's own life, tells the story of an elderly couple's love.

The film titled Pyre, true tale from a village in Munsyari  directed by Vinod Kapri. This film will have its world premiere at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival in Estonia on November 19, 2024. It’s the only Indian entry in the Official Competition category this year.

Pyre is a heartfelt story set in a remote village in Uttarakhand, India, and features real-life, non-professional actors—Padam Singh and Hira Devi, who are both in their 80s. The film captures their lives and love, set against the backdrop of the region's "ghost villages"—abandoned due to migration. Hira Devi, the focus of your inquiry, lives alone in one such village, which became a significant inspiration for the film. The story emphasizes themes of solitude, resilience, and love in the twilight years.

The film was produced independently by Vinod Kapri and his wife, Sakshi Joshi, under Bhagirathi Films. It also features contributions from renowned artists like Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna and legendary Indian lyricist Gulzar, who were deeply moved by the story and worked on the project without commercial incentives.
After its premiere at Tallinn, Pyre is expected to continue its journey on the global film festival circuit before being released in India in 2025.
